What Visitors Say

Word from the hypergrid

Ruritania has a warm reputation among travellers on the grid. A few words from those who've wandered through.

A narrow boat, a cricket pitch, and the deceptively normal air of a quiet English village. But like Portmeirion in The Prisoner, or Twin Peaks, the sense of mystery is hard to ignore. A beautiful build, one of the highlights of the hypergrid.

Such an awesome place! The attention to detail is amazing. I've only explored part of it but have loved every moment — and there are lots of NPCs to meet.

— Glenys Bieler

Lovely little town with lots of little nooks and crannies to explore.

— Hollow Bunny

Thank you for letting me have a nose around — it reminded me of my old county of Somerset, in the UK.

— Stevie Zee

It was wonderful meeting you and your aunty! I took the train ride after our conversation.

— Jerralyn Franzic

I love the layout — a nice place to visit.

About

A village frozen in time

Ruritania became frozen in time last century and, like Punxsutawney, begins each day fresh and unaware of what came before — only you are free to roam and in on the secret. It has the deceptively normal air of a quiet English village, somewhere between Portmeirion and Twin Peaks, and it rewards slow wandering: a narrow boat and a cricket pitch, a brewery and a harbour, Wilton House on the hill, the Palladian and Craigellachie bridges, Adlestrop Station, Benedict Mine and Foyles Farm. Some thirty NPCs are dotted about with clues to a treasure hunt and hidden cinema links, and a few things you pass carry a double meaning — it's up to you to spot them. The region is over a decade old, and new destinations join the map over time; this page is the directory that ties them together.
